  • Definition
A spacer is a profile used to assemble insulating glazing.
It ensures the spacing between glass panes, and is usually hollow.
It can be : 

- metal (aluminium, galvanized steel, stainless steel, etc.),
- organic,
- synthetic (plastic, glass fibre, etc.) covered with a metal strip.

 
  • Use in CEKAL-certified insulating glazing
A spacer must have been subjected to : - a long ageing test without UVs and without gas in insulating glazing, as per the CEKAL rule, - an adhesiveness-cohesion test with the mastic sealant concerned.
